Nowruz marks the March equinox and the beginning of spring, a celebration of renewal recognised by many including those of Iranian, Afghan, Kurdish, Syrian, Albanian and Iraqi heritage. The roots of the celebration can be traced back to Zoroastrianism 3,000 years ago, but continues to be celebrated today. Marking the Iranian New Year as well as a holy day for Zoroastrians, Baháʼís and Ismaʿili and Shia Muslims.
We are planning a Nowruz celebration at the Town Hall. As conflict unfolds across the world we think it important to continue coming together to focus on peace, community and the start of spring.
We are keen to engage with any groups or individuals that would be keen to celebrate, numbers are limited and the event will be ticketed but families and children are welcome.
