Anthony’s developed handyman skills

Anthony tells us his story:

I started doing the bricklaying and that was the first course I did. They taught us how to measure the distance, and how to prepare your cement and your sand mix. That took three days and I learnt quite a lot that I didn’t know at all before. And then the week afterwards I did the plastering course. That taught me how to prepare the wall, how to get the mix ready again, and basically how to get wall ready for painting and to put wallpaper up. It was really thorough. In addition, I completed the CSCS course which means I am fit to work on a construction site, so that’s great for people who want to start in the construction industry.

Now that I’ve finished these courses, I plan to go to the Caribbean, to live with my mother, who is over there. I will be a pensioner by the end of this year, so I’m trying to get as many skills as I can so when I go over there I can help my mother to do things rather than have to pay people to do these things. Instead, why not me do it!

I would definitely recommend the course to other people. It’s a great course, you’re going to learn so much stuff. You learn about health and safety at the beginning and then you come away with skills such as plastering and bricklaying. So if you’ve got problems at home, instead of calling people out you can do it yourself! Where it is located is very good, very easy to get to, it’s just off the Woolwich Road, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. I got on the course for free, with Greenwich Council, because of my age. And there was quite a few people on the course so it was very good. The staff are excellent, very on the ball, very good. Yes, I’d recommend it to everybody.
