Course(s): Get IT Savvy
Training partner: Global Solution Services
Sarah felt her IT skills were holding her back, but now she’s confident and motivated to start a new career.
Sarah's story:
Three days. That’s all it took to change everything.
After more than a year out of work, Sarah joined the Get IT Savvy course not knowing quite what to expect. What she found was a transformation. “It’s been amazing what a difference it has made,” she says. “My confidence has really grown.”
The course covered practical, everyday digital skills — opening documents, sending emails with attachments, staying safe online, and searching for opportunities. Skills that are essential for the modern world, but that had been quietly holding Sarah back for years.
“Everything these days requires using a computer,” she explains. “And my IT skills have definitely been letting me down.”
At 42, Sarah is ready for a fresh start. After years managing bars and restaurants, she wants to do something she feels passionate about — working with people, making a real difference. She recently applied for a role supporting homeless projects in Greenwich, and has her sights set on becoming a housing officer. “It’s out of my comfort zone,” she admits. “But I’ve always been interested in going into, and it’s something I care about deeply.”
Going back to education after 28 years wasn’t easy. But Sarah found something unexpected waiting for her: community. People from all walks of life, all with the same goal, to learn. “Everyone supports each other,” she says. “Coming to the course each day gave me a reason to get up, get going, and achieve something.”
Now, Sarah feels ready for what comes next. Funded courses are available. Opportunities are there. And for the first time in a long time, so is hope.
“I feel my future has brightened a little bit,” she says. “And it's just down to me now — to take advantage of it.”
