Portrait of student Portia

Course(s): ESOL

Portia is on the ESOL course and already feeling so much more confident to speak to strangers.

Portia tells us her story:

My course is about learning, speaking and writing in English, and I have learnt lots on this course. It has given me more confidence to speak when I go to my son’s school or when I take my son to the children’s centre. This course has helped me a lot, because I used to be shy when speaking in public but now I feel so much more confident. I used to feel like people were going to laugh at me so I didn’t want to take my son to nursery or to the children’s centre. But now I can go out with my son and speak to strangers and whether my English is good or not I still feel able to speak. I feel so much happier because of this course.

After this course I want to go further, so I can gain the qualifications to be able to go to university and learn hairdressing because I want to become a hairdresser.

I would recommend this course to others because the course has helped me improve my English. So if I saw somebody struggling with their English in the same way I did, I would tell them all about this course. The course was very good because the teacher came down to our level to teach us so that we understand it properly and encourage us try and succeed.
