Making crafts courses

Our practical hands-on courses allow you to explore a new interest in crafts and develop your talents through progression courses.

Our ceramics courses cover a wide breadth of sculpting, modelling, coiling, press moulding, slab-building, and wheel-throwing, and surface decoration methods such as slip colours, oxides, and glazing, for beginners through to advanced maker.

Jewellery courses can teach you working in silver, copper, brass, gold, and aluminium to create beautiful and unique pieces of jewellery.

Stained glass courses teach you the foundations of this traditional craft and give you the skills to design and produce your own stained glass pieces including sandblasting, painting, fusing, and slumping.

Other courses include flower arranging, hat making, and macramé, introducing you to alternative craft skills and allowing you to explore your creativity.

Clothesmaking, creative textiles, sewing and embroidery courses

Our courses can help you make simple alterations and completing mends to clothing and textiles items, and become confident in adding zips, pockets, sleeves and collars. You can learn to use a sewing machine and complete some simple sewing ideas. Advanced courses are available to learn to read and use a commercial pattern and make your own clothes, or complete a project.

Specialised embroidery courses can develop your skills with particular techniques and can improve your wellbeing and mindfulness. Decorative techniques can be learnt to create attractive finishes and effects. Exploring fabric techniques such as batik, tie-dye, indigo and Japanese shibori.

Baking and cake decorating courses

Courses starting with the basics to establish confidence and discover tips and tricks to make delicious treats for friends and family. Progression courses are available in cake decorating taking you from a talented home baker through to professional standard cake maker. You can learn royal icing and piping, simple modelling and making flowers, using fondant and marzipan, and working with sugarpaste to achieve crimping, embossing and inlaying. You can explore more complex decorating methods and develop your creativity.

Most of our courses are fully funded for Royal Greenwich residents. You can check your eligibility when you book with one of our selected training partners. Most courses are taught in person with some online options available – you can discuss any specific needs you have when you contact a training partner.
