Alaa came to the Introduction to Working in the Childcare and Early Years Sectors course at Greenwich Learns with a desire to learn — and she left with far more than she expected.
“The course taught you essential knowledge for child development, education and safety,” she says. “It included a lot of active exercises to put knowledge into practice – lesson planning, watching videos – and it was a lot of fun.”
A big part of what made the experience work, Alaa explains, was the teaching. “The teacher was very helpful and made sure that everyone understood and no one was struggling.”
But it was the final two weeks that really stood out. Rather than wrapping up with theory, the course shifted its focus entirely to getting students into work – covering job searching, LinkedIn profiles, CV writing, and interview technique.
“I really came away with an understanding of how to research a potential employer before your interview,” says Alaa, “so that you know something about them and can talk confidently.” For anyone who knows how tough the job market can be, that practical grounding made all the difference. “It was really helpful to get more tips and insights into how to successfully secure a job,” she reflects.
