Celebrating VE Day 80

Today marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, the end of World War II in Europe on 8 May 1945. On Monday, residents celebrated in style with street parties across the borough.

We raised the VE Day 80 flag above Woolwich Town Hall today to honour those who fought for our freedom in World War II, and who have served in the armed forces since. Greenwich is home to the second largest armed forces community in London and we are proud signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant.
