Fire truck dealing with a fire on Nathan Way following lithium ion battery catching fire

This is what happens when batteries are not disposed of properly

Thankfully no one was hurt, but a lithium-ion battery caused a fire at Nathan Way on Monday. Even if it seems easy to chuck a battery in the bin, if you get it wrong it can have serious consequences.

Lithium-ion batteries must be taken to designated recycling points to ensure safe and environmentally friendly disposal. Many supermarkets and large retailers also have designated collection points.
