World Cancer Day 4th February 2024

4 February is World Cancer Day. If you have noticed something in your body that doesn’t feel right and are worried it could be cancer, contact your GP practice.

Many people worry about cancer but sometimes put off getting checked because they hope the symptoms will go away or think they will get bad news. But finding cancer early makes it more treatable and can save lives.

If you are eligible for the NHS cancer screening programmes, please make every effort to have your screening test. Screening tests can detect a problem early, before you have any symptoms. Finding out about a problem early can mean that treatment is more effective. To find out if you are eligible for screening visit Cancer Research UK’s guidance on screening.

Making some simple changes to your lifestyle can reduce your risk of developing cancer. Giving up smoking, keeping to a healthy weight, eating a healthy diet, being physically active, limiting how much alcohol you drink and taking care in the sun, can all help to lower your risk.
